Shifting Gears

I’ve spent the weekend learning to drive a stick shift. I wish I had learned this ages ago, because learning it now is giving me palpitations. It’s soooo stressful! If there were no other drivers around ever, I wouldn’t have any problems. The second someone pulls up behind me at a stoplight, I start freaking out a little bit.  I get nervous that I’ll stall the car and then I get anxious about pissing off other drivers and being all sorts of embarrassed.  Ugh.

But! It’s going to be good. I’ll do fine after some practice.  I drove around by myself for the first time this evening and only stalled once, so I think that’s a good sign. I just hope my nerves don’t get the best of me tomorrow when I have to drive to actually get to and from work instead of just around as a learning experience.
